Planning your JOG

How should I choose a venue for my JOG?

We recommend gathering at a venue away from campus in order to be free from distractions, and allowing for a restful “retreat.” With that said, anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours is typical. Consider what may work best for your group and let Generous Giving know what area you’d like to be in for your JOG. If you already know of someone (like an alumni) who would be willing to host your retreat, please let us know.

Inviting to a JOG

How many people should I invite?

We recommend inviting more people than the ideal group size of 12-16. It is a fair assumption that a few people will cancel before the event, so do not be afraid to over-invite. 

What language should I use to invite my friends?

“I would like to invite you to a one-of-a-kind event called a Journey of Generosity (JOG). It’s a retreat with your peers to connect, have conversation, and clarify the purpose of your giving. Don’t worry! It’s not a fundraiser. It’s simply a time to slow down and reflect on the possibilities.” 

“I wanted to share with you about a retreat we’re thinking of doing in the spring. An organization called Generous Giving hosts retreats with MBA, JD, and MD Christian Fellowships. The retreats are a time of discussion as a fellowship on wealth, career, and Christian discipleship. They use Scripture, a Tim Keller teaching, and stories like this one. The time (Airbnb, facilitator, meals, etc.) is fully funded by Generous Giving and without any kind of “ask” (Generous Giving is privately funded by a few family foundations so they don’t accept donations). GG has hosted 70+ retreats with MBA/MD/JD fellowships in the past few years. Let me know if you would be interested in attending and I will pass along the invite once we land on the date!”
