Hosting a Large Group Format Journey of Generosity (JOG) for your Church
Even in the church, we have found that honest discussions about money are rare but valuable. We believe God wants us to experience the fulfillment of a generous life, and it can all start with a simple conversation.
By hosting a One Day Journey of Generosity at your church, you are giving your people the opportunity to explore living with biblical generosity in their marriages, businesses, ministries, and their whole lives in a safe and pressure-free environment.

Planning Your JOG
Typical Schedule
The Large Group Format JOG is typically 7 hours (9 a.m. - 4 p.m.) with built-in breaks and an hour for lunch. Table Hosts will arrive early for a quick training from a Generous Giving facilitator before the JOG begins.

Room Setup
- Emceed by a facilitator deployed by Generous Giving from the front of the room.
- Large screen visible to the entire room to view videos.
- Ideal seating is 8-10 people per round table with one table host to guide the discussion time during each session.
Table Hosts
Please select hosts for each table of 8-10 people. They will arrive at 30 minutes before the JOG begins for a quick training with the Generous Giving Facilitator, and will have a sheet of questions to use during each discussion time.
- Table Host Job Description:
A member of the Generous Giving team will be guiding you through the Journey of Generosity (JOG) experience from the front and your role as table leader will be to facilitate discussion in small groups around your table during discussion times. Encourage those who haven’t shared to share. We will provide you with prompted questions to reference if necessary, but it is likely that discussion will flow organically. Much of the experience is video-based and much of the discussion will be centered around what stood out to individuals while watching the video stories.
Help them set expectation of sharing – allow everyone to talk. This is not a teaching event, this is a conversation between you and God.

Inviting Your Church
Invitational Language
These are some phrases we like to use in-person, or via text or email to invite people to a JOG retreat.
- You are making a difference in the life of our church, and I appreciate you. I would like to invite you, along with a few key leaders in our congregation, to experience a retreat called a Journey of Generosity. This is not a fundraising event. It is a one-of-a-kind experience designed to inspire our entire group.
- Because I have experienced you as a generous person, I would like to invite you to a special event. A Journey of Generosity (JOG) is a retreat where I was inspired, and I hope it will be a blessing to you as well!

Next Steps
Host a Journey of Generosity Retreat
If you are interested in developing a long-term strategy for your church to host more JOGs, please reach out to Kirsten Schwartz for more information at kirsten@generousgiving.org.
Church-Wide Facilitator Training
After a Journey of Generosity experience, many participants are curious how they can keep discussing this message. One option for further engagement is to become a trained facilitator.
Small-Group Journey of Generositys are held in homes with a group of 10-14 people led by a Geneorus Giving trained facilitator. Sharing this message with friends and family has been a helpful step in the journies of many.
If you are interested in holding a training at your church for attendees after your Large JOG, please reach out to Scarlett Broughton at scarlett@generousgiving.org for more information.
Host a Generosity Conversation
Generosity Conversations are a 2-hour event designed to create space for dialogue around God and money in a format that is simple to host and organize.
If you would like more information about hosting a Generosity Conversation with your church or church leadership, please reach out to Kirsten Schwartz at kirsten@generousgiving.org.
